Quick Update

No Fun. Not Ever.

Quick Update

Just a quick update on what’s happening behind closed doors here at ENEMIES LIST:

+Deathconsciousness Vinyl are ordered and in production. We are also doing some tweaking on the sound to make sure the lo-fi recording comes across on vinyl (a much more difficult process than we assumed, but then, you live, you learn, I suppose). I’m excited for them to get here.

+Giles Corey recording is proceeding apace. In fact, it’s going really, really well. I’m very happy with how it’s turning out, but I have the sneaking suspicion that it won’t be received all that well, critically. Originally, I though of it as kind of a lo-fi acoustic, country-tinged Xasthur. It isn’t turning out like that; the songs have more choruses than a goddamned Broadway musical. It almost makes me uncomfortable, but when it comes to writing music the style has always been dictated by emotion, not outside consideration. That sounds a bit pretentious, I guess, but really it just comes down to writing what you want to write and not thinking too much about whether anyone else will like it…

…In any case, I’ve always thought of Deathconsciousness, Nahvalr and Giles Corey as part of a whole, the Voor Trilogy, as I’ve just now decided to call it. They all share certain lyrical and melodic touchstones, they share graphic elements, they’re all born out of a specific period of time and series of events. It’ll be a huge relief when the whole thing is done, though it’ll be a while, yet…

+M. Kestigian is still working on the upcoming America Addio record, but I’ve heard rough cuts and it is fucking amazing. Really. Next-level for him and for us as a label. I’m excited.

Giles Corey Starts Recording, Next Year’s Releases, Website Upgrade, CTKVLT and More.

Hello all,

It’s time to roll out our planned releases for 2009. Here is what you can expect.

Have A Nice Life – Deathconsciousness vinyl, as per popular demand. Short run, early 2009, more info soon.

Have A Nice Life – Deathconsciousness repress, joint release by ENEMIES LIST and the infamous tUMULt records. This is for everyone that wanted a physical copy and didn’t get one. Should be mid-year sometime.

America Addio – Cotton Kingdom, the first full-length from the reclusive pop genius M. Kestigian.

Afterlives – A Ticking Clock I Couldn’t Stop, debut EP of jangly one man pop-dirges in the vein of Jandek meets Deftones. It’s awesome. Early 2009.

Giles Corey – s/t, debut album from Dan Barrett’s (HANL, Nahvalr) solo lonely country/ghost music/choral project.

There are also two new Have A Nice Life records in the works, but we work slowly and so I’m not sure they’ll be done in 2009. We’ll see.

So, that’s the plan. That’s a pretty full plate for us.

Speaking of Giles Corey, the writing process is almost over and recording has officially begun. There’s going to be a lot of experimentation with recording of acoustic instruments and so on, so it’ll be an interesting and hopefully not-too-painful process.

The website has received an upgrade, as well. Please tell us if it works for you.

We are also almost ready to reveal the new project we are working on: CTKVLT.COM. Nothing there yet, but we’re working behind the scenes and lining up some really interesting stuff. It should be excellent.

2009 should be a big year for us. Thanks for all the support.
