We're overjoyed, can't you tell?
Hell yes, there is a New ENEMIESLIST.NET. It took me forever. I’m glad its over, and sorry for taking so long.But: There are big changes here at the label, and more coming. Let me tell you a bit more about it.
First and foremost, you’ll notice this page, and the others surrounding it, have been redesigned. The look is cleaner, more adaptable to the different kinds of content I plan on posting here, and the separate sections of the site are more integrated with one another. Artist pages are now fully-featured, comprehensive places to get information and music from all ENEMIES LIST artists and projects.
That’s important, because this site, and this blog, especially, are going to become more integral to what we do. For a long time, I’ve wanted to lay open the workings of the label, the work of our artists, our methods of production, our philosophical underpinnings (this label has always been as much philosophical statement as capitalist entity); essentially, to create a fully-open, transparent organization. I’ve always wanted that, being someone who wanted to run their own label, and now that I’m stumbling through the process and having some success I want to create the resource that I never had.
In short: expect more blog posts, on a variety of topics – recording, label logistics, upcoming projects, new releases, motivation, interviews. Anything and everything. Also: videos, photos, more multi-media work, more diverse methods of communication. We’re bringing more people on board. Is it going to be regular? Probably not. After all, I still work full time and go to grad school full time finishing two Master’s degrees. Not to mention recording actual music. But I’m going to try.
In terms of logistics, we are upgrading. We’ve moved to a new, dedicated space, one with a lot more room. I’m very close to switching over our e-store software, streamlining the ordering process and fixing several fatal flaws that were cutting into our resources. I’ve made a commitment to increase order turn-around time (balancing the mail-order part of the label with my job, school, girlfriend, dog, and art has never been easy) and eliminate mistakes and delays. I’ll be going into how we’re doing that later.
Artistically, things are moving. We’ve decided to increase our rate of release, bringing in several new artists (who couldn’t be any more different from each other, but who both produce absolutely incredible, amazing music). Check the artists page! They are all incredible, and I am so, so excited to be working on these records. We’ve got a full schedule of new releases from some existing ENEMIES LIST artists as well: Have A Nice Life, America Addio, and Giles Corey should all have records out this year. We’re innovating in terms of packaging and production methods.
What’s more, as some of you probably know, HAVE A NICE LIFE is making the move towards live performance. That’s a huge step for us, an on-going process I’ll be detailing here. Our first show will be at The Stone in Brooklyn on February 28th. We have a short tour planned with an amazing band, Alcest, in April. We are practicing as much as possible and our reaching our goal of being very, very loud.
End result: we are getting more ambitious. We are making the next step. We’re growing. It’s a good thing. We’re going to make a lot of music and crush a lot of dreams, just like we’ve always done.
